Cargo That Stays Put

Cargo That Stays Put

The 4.10.2 physics networking overhaul targets loose cargo, grenades, and throwables. What changed, what did not, and a short retest list for hauling orgs.

Every hauler has a story about a crate that achieved sentience. It slid. It bounced. The tractor put it down and the server yoinked it back to where it used to be. Alpha 4.10.2 is CIG's attempt to end that career.

The netcode for loose physics objects was rewritten. The old habit was binary: the server's version of a box was either gospel or garbage, so one bad update turned into a crate skating across the grid for the rest of the session. The new pass scores how much to trust that update. If you just bumped the box, the client is allowed to doubt the server for a moment. Corrections arrive as nudges, not teleports, unless a teleport is the only honest option and the destination is actually empty. Throws start from the frame you let go. Setting a box down with the tractor is not supposed to reel it home anymore.

What this does not touch: ships, ground vehicles, characters, and anything bolted to them. Your Hull C did not get a new flight model on October 9. Your grenade did.

Retest Before You Rewrite the SOP

  1. One loose crate on a ramp. Stand on it. Walk away. Come back.
  2. Stack two. The gold STACK hint on the Hauling planner still means "this one sits on that one." Physics should agree more often now. Confirm it.
  3. Tractor a box onto the grid, release, don't touch it for thirty seconds.
  4. Toss a grenade or a bottle in a bunker hallway with a partner watching from their client. If only your screen believes it, say so.
  5. Write the result in the Field Manual. "Works on our server tonight" is more useful than a patch-note quote.

Pad limits did not change because crates got better manners. Outposts still max out on crate size. Plan the run on Hauling before the elevator does it for you.

Final Approach

Move one box like you mean it. If it stays, buy the crew a drink. If it moonwalks, file it the new system is a fix in progress, not a religion.
